The bright early morning light striking illuminating the aspen tree in the foreground was set off nicely against the cool morning shadows of Lundy Lake and mountains in the distance.

“Nones (Two Paths Diverged, Carpinteria Bluffs)”
12 x 16 Oil $1540
Artist Statement:
My family came to Carpinteria in the 1860’s buying 400 acres between Carpinteria Creek and the bluffs overlooking the ocean. Some of my family still own a part of that original homestead. The “bluffs” are now owned by other people, but I still go out there to hike and look at the ocean and think about the connection to the land. In the evening light the cool shadows cast by the ancient eucalyptus trees contrast with the warm glow in the foothills.

“Sierra Aspens (Valentine Reserve)
“20 x 16 Oil $2560
Artist Statement:
I really can’t get enough of the vibrant and luminous yellows and oranges of aspens in fall. While exploring the UCSB Valentine Preserve in Mammoth Lakes I came out of the forest to this small clearing with the morning sun illuminating a small aspen set against the dark pine forest behind. I thought it was an interesting composition. There is a certain quietness and energy to the painting.
