The Tehachapi Arts Commission announced that the Art 2023 Tehachapi show, which took place at the Aspen Builders Community Center over the July 21-23 weekend, surpassed both of the prior years in both attendance and sales.

The Tehachapi Arts Commission will be celebrating its third nationally recognized art show, Art 2023 Tehachapi, on the weekend of July 21-23 at the Aspen Builders Community Center located at 410 W. D Street. This year 49 artists will be participating in Art 2023, many returning for a third year. The featured artist of 2023 is Junn Roca, the artist who won the Best Landscape award at Art 2022 for his painting "Covered Bridge."

“I was 49 and I was in business and had a business call to a gentleman in Temple City and we were walking the property and in the back of his garage he had a studio. I said, ‘What do you do?’ He said, ‘I’m a sculptor.’ I said, ‘That’s fascinating, I’d love to do something like that.’ He said, ‘Well, come by on Thursday nights, a few of us get together and sculpt and have beers and talk,'” Dreyer said.

The Tehachapi Arts Commission has announced Art in the Park, a project that will eventually place life-size works of art in each of Tehachapi's parks.

At least 40 artists were scheduled to come to Tehachapi and participate in the first annual “plein air” competition. Plein air artists are those who gather their paints, brushes, palette, canvas and easel and head into the countryside to draw and paint in the landscape allowing them to better capture light and its changing qualities.

Staff at Adventist Health Tehachapi Valley hospital Wednesday evening unveiled a new piece of art — in the form of an angel — that symbolizes hope and faith to those entering the hospital.

To that end, they have planned Art 2020, inviting nationally known artists and locals to paint “en plein air” throughout Tehachapi from May 16 to 22, 2020. The artists will be encouraged to paint throughout the community from the hills to the vineyards to our picturesque downtown.

The Tehachapi Arts Commission is planning on attracting top artists and collectors to help put the Greater Tehachapi area on the map as a major art destination, attract affluent earners and potentially raise funds for a national-level art event.
